Weekend Balloon Flying Weather Update

Friday, May 29th, 2009

Well, it’s another weekend and another weekend of what looks to be mostly lousy flying weather. Today, Friday has another front passing through this afternoon with showers/possible thunder and some clearing late. There is a stronger cold front coming through on the overnight, and is currently advertised to be passing through the flying area during morning flight time hour with a chance of showers. Conditions look to clear for the rest of Saturday with another front scheduled to pass overnight Saturday into Sunday morning with some clearing later. Then another front passing through on Monday. Hopefully we’ll be getting some deserved decent flying weather again around mid week coming. All right now…….we’ll see how this all plays out for next couple of days. The garden and lawn are growing, but the flying is limping along:-(

Balloon Flying Weather for the Weekend

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

Flying weather appears to be wet for Thursday and Friday. Flying weather should improve in time for at least part of the weekend. At this time, Saturday appears to be the best day for flying this weekend. Then the early part of next week goes down hill with improving flying weather around Wednesday. As always, stay tuned for continuing episodes of how the North Country Weather Turns!

Hot Air Balloon Rides

The flying weather this past holiday weekend was problematic at best. Out of 5 scheduled flights, we attempted 3 and flew 1. Wind was the main culprit this weekend, with a few rain showers tossed into the mix. We did have a beautiful flight on Monday AM with a couple in town on vacation and a local celebrating a birthday.

Weekend Hot Air Balloon Flying Weather Update

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

Currently the forecast has potentially good flying weather for Friday AM, Saturday AM, Sunday and Monday AM & PM flights. The wind is forecast to pick-up today to make Thursday PM not possible. The overnight wind should deminish to make Friday AM flyable. A front is scheduled to move NW to SE across the area late Friday morning/early afternoon, and stall in the mid Hudson Valley to the south of Albany. A flyable Saturday AM will give way to scattered afternoon showers as a wave of low pressure moves east along the stalled front. The front should sag further south after the wave passes to improve our flying weather for the balance of the holiday weekend. Rain is advertised to return for Tuesday/Wednesday of next week. As always, weather is a dynamic thing and does change, so stay tuned for further updates as we go along. Enjoy your holiday weekend!!

Last night was a spectacular night for a flight. A flight that reminded me why I got hooked on ballooning 36 years ago.

Flying Weather for the week of 5/18-22

Sunday, May 17th, 2009

Flight weather will be good on Monday and early Tuesday. A front is forecast to pass through the area later on Tuesday with improved flying weather again on Wednesday through Thursday. Friday should be a down day for flying, possibly lingering into early Saturday.  We have space available on most of our flights this week, including the upcoming holiday weekend. Take advantage of the beautiful early spring flying weather and give us a call to reserve space on a flight. As always, the weather is a dynamic thing and changes do happen. Stay tuned for weather updates going into the coming holiday weekend.
