Hot Air Balloon Flying Weather Update for Weekend and into Next Week

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Like I said yesterday, Good Grief! Our wet and unsettled weather pattern continues for the forseeable future. Heavy rain again today, dry on Saturday, rain on Sunday, dry on Monday, rain on Tuesday, somewhat dry on Wednesday, rain on Thursday – do you notice a pattern here?! The outlook is what’s called “the mean mid/upper level trof” across the central Great Lakes will amplify over the NE Conus with waves of energy rotating around this upper low, like spokes on a wheel. What this all means is, that the weather we’ve had since late May/early June, well it will continue.

Hot Air Balloon Ride Flying Weather into the upcoming Weekend

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

After doing a morning balloon ride today, weather goes down hill for heavy rain & thunder this afternoon into the overnight. Weather will improve on Thursday, but there always is a chance of rain &/or thunder in the afternoons this summer. Friday AM’s weather should be ok, to be followed by another system for later in the morning into the overnight on Friday. Currently, we are advertised to have good weather over the coming weekend until sometime late on Sunday, when another system passes through the overnight into Monday. Such is life in the great NE this flight season. No extended periods of no rain or sun.

07-29-09 AM Hot Air Balloon Ride

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

The mornings are the key for getting a hot air balloon ride in with this weather pattern we have this season. Afternoon’s are tough due to recurrentĀ  convective activity (rain &/or thunder) due to an upper level low that is currently semi-permanently parked up over the Great Lakes in O’Canada. Had the Kononchik/Gorman family and friends from Lenanon CT on board this morning for a summertime morning flight.

Weather for Hot Air Balloon Rides this Week

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

Flight weather should be good today into Wednesday morning’s flight. After that, rain returns into early Thursday. Flight weather clears during the day on Thursday into early Friday with another round of rain forecast for Friday into Friday night. The weekend currently is advertised to be nice with rain returning for overnight on Sunday into Monday. At least we are getting more days inbetween the rain and maybe we are trending to more dry than rain for the busy August flying season.

A Saturday with the Fam

Saturday was family day for the extended Jackson/Couture clans at the Couture house in Middlebury CT. A great weekend day without rain, and good times visiting with all. Bro Richard came up from Vero Beach FL and his wife Vic from temporary duty in Charlottsville VA along w/son Ryan and his son Ollie from MD. Bro Steve came down from P’burg up north near the border. From the Couture clan we had old bro-n-law Chuck in town for a short stay before leaving for Zurich for the month of August (he’s director of Flight Op for CVStar and the boss wants to leave town so Chuck has to drive), his wife, my sis Kit and their youngens Geof up from NJ, Aaron from lower PA, and Jen and Bob from nearby Canton CT w/daughter Lilly Ann.

Flight Weather Update through mid Week

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

In a nutshell, the balloon flight weather will be unsettled through the middle of next week. Hopefully, we will shake this stuck weather pattern of a permanent trough over the northeast with waves of low pressure rotating through the area. Whenever the pattern breaks, it will probably go the other way and be bone dry for an extended period, and everybody will complain that it’s too dry-like they were back in May.

Tonight we flew a Mom and Son from the area. The son works in the movie/tv production biz down in NYC and the Mom owns the River Road Campground on 9N in Corinth.

Weather Update for Hot Air Balloon Rides this Week

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

The chance for rain increases later in the day today, Tuesday the 21st. Rain should overspread our flight area by late afternoon and continue through the overnight into early Wednesday morning. A wave of low pressure should pass to the northeast and bring some partial clearing for Wednesday afternoon with just a chance of a shower. Rain and thunder should return on Thursday into Friday, before a warm front and another wave of low pressure passes to our north and east. There should be some improvement for the weekend with just a chance of afternoon showers before another wave pivots around the upper low and into our area sometime late Sunday into Monday. Check back for updates as they come available. Currently it look like Wednesday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday offer the best opportunities for getting balloon flights in. I currently have space available on the Sunday PM flight, call if you are interested to book this space.
