The last couple of days have been great for doing our balloon flights. Unfortunately, the good balloon flying weather is going to end for much of this week. This morning we had a couple on board from the Eastport area of Long Island. It was a fantastic morning with just some low fog to add to the morning’s scenery.

Currently, the best flying weather for the early part of the week will be today, the 19th and at least the morning of the 20th. After that weather will be difficult for most of the week, hopefully improving toware the coming weekend. Check back for weather updates for the weeks flying weather. We have plenty of space available on most flight for this week, so pick a nice day and call for your reservation.

The best chance for rain showers will be later this afternoon, Friday the 17th, through the overnight into early Saturday morning. Bulk of rain showers should lift north and east by the afternoon. An upper level disturbance over the Great Lakes/western Ontario will be building into the area behind the departing showers which will bring a chance of rain and/or thunder most afternoons through mid week due to unstable conditions aloft w/the upper level system – sound familiar? Upper level system looks to break down later in the week. With this kind of system, the best chance of getting a flight in is usually in the morning. There may also be opportunities in the afternoon depending on the cycle of waves of energy that rotates around these upper level low pressure systems. We have space available on most flights through the outlook period, so pick your day and call for a reservation.

Tonight we flew Rabbi Applegrad and his wife Sharon from Lakewood NJ on a very interesting flight. Once aloft we found the winds to be very quick. We took off from the exact same field that we used on our morning flight, which can be unusual for us and then landed maybe 20 feet to the right in the exact same field that we landed this morning – very unusual. The one big difference in the two rides, was the flight time required to go the same distance. On the morning flight it took us around 1 hour to go the distance, but it took maybe half the time to go the same distance on the afternoon flight. Like I said, quick winds and a quick landing. It’s the type of situation where you appreciate having an experienced hand on the tiller to guide the ship into port for a safe landing.

Today, Wednesday is a beautiful day. Thursday rain is forecast off and on through the overnight. Friday may start dry with rain showers possible in the afternoon. Then the weekend! Saturday is currently being advertised as setting up to be a very wet day-like we haven’t seen this before on our weekends this summer? Sunday may be dry-somewhat w/what’s described as unsettled weather through Tuesday – it’s another cut off low up over the Great Lakes through the period. It’s like the Bill Murray movie Ground Hog Day, you wake up to the same thing over and over….

Another beautiful morning for hot air ballooning. Flew a pair of ladies in town on vacation w/family from MA. It appears that our cut-off low may have finally left the building-at least temporarily. So enjoy the beautiful day while we have it!

High pressure moves into the area today for the early part of the week, to be followed by some unsettled weather. The best flying weather for going on a hot air balloon ride looks to be tonight, Sunday PM and probably Monday AM, both flights on Tuesday and the early Wednesday AM balloon ride. Other than tonight, we have a number of spaces available for our hot air balloon rides this week. So call to make your reservation while we have this nice stretch of weather. The best chance for rain during the week looks to be late Wednesday into the overnight. Check back for weather updates as they come in.
