08-06-AM Hot Air Balloon Ride and Flying Weather Update for Week

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

Another beautiful morning for a balloon ride. It was so nice that 3 other ballooners joined us up flying this morning. Kind of a rarity this season having that many flyers up together. Flew a very nice couple from the Utica area that drove over early this AM just to go flying with us.

As far as our flying weather for the rest of the week, tonight is a maybe depending on what a trough does to us as it passes through this afternoon. It appears that we still have our upper air low still hanging around above the Great Lakes in Ontario, spinning off disturbances periodically that like to rotate through our area during the afternoons. Friday morning should be good flying, then another one of those disturbances are advertised to spin-off the low and pass through in the afternoon. We have seen this weather pattern almost daily since June, with short-lived breaks in the weather. Saturday looks to be the best day of the weekend before a warm front moves into the area to bring greater chances of rain and storms. That type of weather looks to continue into the coming week, hotter and more humid post warm front passage than we currently are.

08/04 AM Balloon Flight and Flying Weather for this Week

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

Tuesday morning was a good one for a hot air balloon ride. We flew a couple from VA on their way to Montreal, and another couple from the central part of New York State, celebrating an anniversary.

The flying weather for hot air balloon rides looks to be best in the mornings for next couple of days with disturbances rotating though the afternoons, causing chances of showers. Saturday looks to be the best day of the weekend, which will hopefully last into early Sunday for the morning flight. By Sunday afternoon, we may be looking again at chances of rain.

Hot Air Balloon Ride flying Weather for the Week

Got skunked this weekend on flights  that I was available to fly passengers. The only real flight opportunity this weekend was on the Saturday evening flight, which I was not available to do with son Grant in-town from CO. We had dinner at Bistro Tulluluh’s planned for a family outing. If you have not had the opportunity to eat there, do! Anyway back to the weather, Monday is a good flying day, except for this morning’s fog, and hopefully tomorrow AM will be good for our planned ride. Weather goes down hill for Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday. After that, we look to potentially have our longest stretch of dry weather since mid May. Let’s hope that we finally get this dry stretch because the flight area is very wet. The ability of the chase vehicle and crew to drive into fields to retrieve the balloon and passengers is not good at this time without some significant drying time out in the flight  country.
