Martha’s Dandee Creme

Monday, May 31st, 2010

When I was a kid growing up in So Glens Falls, we had a favorite place to go for popsicles and such, Engwer’s (sp?) Market. It was a small neighborhood type market that was typical to the day back then. The owner, Mr Engwer, had a saying he would repeat when we came for our ice sweet treats from his cooler, “You scream, I scream, we all scream for ice cream”. Anyhow, a time honored soft ice cream place around here for locals is Martha’s Dandee Creme that is right across from The Great Escape Six Flags amusement park on Rt 9. If you have a itch for soft ice creme, this is as good as any.

Balloon Flying Weather for First Week of June

Monday, May 31st, 2010

Flying weather is forecast to be fast moving after today with 3 periods of rain, and 2 of sun and flyable. Best flying will be on Wednesday and maybe early Thursday morning and probably Saturday and maybe early Sunday. Check back later in the week as weather forecasts always change some as systems move through and upstream systems adjust and make their move toward our area.

The Docksider Restaurant

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

A week ago, my sis came up from CT for a short visit. We had a family get together Saturday afternoon, and went to a nice spot for a late lunch/early dinner and drinks on the water at Glen Lake. Glen Lake is a small lake south of Lake George, right near The Great Escape. There is a traffic light on the corner of  Rt 9 and Glen Lake Rd, across the entrance to The Great Escape Lodge, just south of exit 20 off I-87. Go east on Glen Lake Rd for a couple of miles and you will come to the Docksider Restaurant on the lake. The food is good pub style, but the main attraction is sitting under umbrella tables right off the water. A nice thing to do on a hot, sunny afternoon, especially when there is a nice breeze blowing like there was last Saturday afternoon.

05-30 AM Hot Air Balloon Ride

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

It was a great morning for a hot air balloon flight. There were 3 other balloons taking-off from Floyd Bennett Airport in Queensbury this morning. We had a mini balloon festival going with 4 of us flying together. Unfortunately, it looks like we will get winded-out this afternoon on our scheduled PM flight. Tomorrow AM looks good before the weather turns against us until Wednesday.

Most Current Weather Forecast for the Weekend

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

Here is the most current update to the Memorial Holiday Weekend forecast. After some scattered showers this morning, a weak cold front is forecast to pass through by mid to later in the afternoon today. There should be some clearing around 6 PM today with flyable conditions possibly right behind the front. Sunday is forecast to be a sunny, dry and warm day with light winds to start in the morning with the winds picking up and gusting in the afternoon. Sunday morning should be flyable but afternoon may not be due to winds. On Memorial Day, Monday morning, we are expecting good flying conditions to start the day. The weather may deteriorate later in the morning right through Tuesday, making balloon rides not likely to happen until mid week.

Quick Update to Weekend Weather

Friday, May 28th, 2010

Just a quick update as the weather seems to be changing again for the weekend. Right now, it is looking like Sunday morning will be the best opportunity for flying this weekend. Systems seem to be rather dynamic this weekend, so it could change again. But, if you are considering going on a ride with us this weekend, right now, Sunday AM looks like the best opportunity and we have space available. 518-793-6342 or info@adirondackballoonflights.com

05-28 AM Balloon Ride

Friday, May 28th, 2010

It was a beautiful morning for going on a hot air balloon ride. Alan and Sarah from Gainesville VA were on-board for this morning’s flight.

Well, the flying weather for the weekend is looking just a bit different than it did on yesterday’s forecast. Now they are advertising that there is a slight chance of rain overnight and during the day on Saturday. But, Sunday and early Monday continue look good for flying.

Weather Forecast Update for Memorial Holiday Weekend

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

Areas east of me got pounded by storms last night and there were some to our west, but nothing here. The pine pollen is awful right now. Yuk, everything is yellow and you can taste it outside. We could use just a little rain to wash the pollen off everything, but just a little. Anyhow, further rain chances aren’t good until possibly Monday afternoon or maybe Tuesday. There is a slight chance for showers or storms today as a back-door cold front passes to the southwest. There is a greater chance for storms to our south and west today in the Mohawk Valley and Catskills. Flying weather should be good for Friday and early Saturday. Another weak front or surface trof is forecast to pass through the region in the Northwest flow aloft on Saturday afternoon. There is a slight chance of rain or storms with this front. Depending on the timing of this weak frontal passage, it may effect flying conditions for Saturday afternoon’s ride. Flying weather should improve for Sunday and early Monday before another system begins to influence our weather toward the end of the Memorial Holiday Weekend.
