Good Eats!

Saturday, June 19th, 2010

Since the weather won’t cooperate for flying this afternoon, wifey and I decided to treat ourselves to a late lunch at our favorite place down in Saratoga – Maestro’s, Saratoga Springs is a neat, busy, small city to visit for shopping, dining, and just hanging out at an outdoor cafe to watch the people. It’s about a 1/2 hour drive south of Lake George via I-87. But, today is about food and Maestro’s, I’ll blog later about doings down in Saratoga.

Saturday 6/19/AM Hot Air Balloon Ride and Flying Weather

Saturday, June 19th, 2010

Had some local folks up this morning for a flight. Beautiful summer weather for flying. It looks like this is it for this weekend, as the winds pick-up for the afternoon, a trough and a front through overnight into early Sunday morning, with a secondary front Sunday afternoon. Flying weather looks to improve on Monday just-in-time for our AM and PM flights that we have scheduled.

Tuesday Evening Balloon Ride

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

It was a great evening for going on a hot air balloon ride. Steve and Rebecca joined us for a Private Flight in our Peacock VIII hot air balloon. Steve and Rebecca were visiting the area for some R&R before Steve heads off to Iraq for a year.

Hot Air Balloon Ride Flying Weather for the Week 6/14

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

This is the current forecast for this week. High pressure from the James Bay region will be briefly over the area today before slipping offshore tonight. Another disturbance from the Eastern Great Lakes region will bring more rain on Wednesday, into early Thursday, followed by high pressure for the end of the week. The end of week weather looks summery with highs reaching up into the 80′s before a cold front passes overnight on Saturday. A chance of showers and storms returns for late Saturday and Sunday, with high pressure returning for early next week.

06/11/PM Balloon Ride

Saturday, June 12th, 2010

Friday evening was an interesting evening to fly, with an unusual east wind down low and near calm winds above 1,000 AGL, for having high pressure over head. It was very clear with very low humidity. We were able to hang out up at altitude to enjoy the distant views and also enjoy an extended low level contour flight over some wet lands for wildlife viewing. We could see the Catskills below Albany up at altitude-60 miles or so to the South, Lake George and the High Peaks of the Adirondacks to the North and the Green Mountains off to the East.

Flying Weather Update Heading into the Weekend

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

An upper level disturbance will pass across the region today. Weak high pressure will crest over the region for Friday. Friday night a warm front will push into New York. It will linger across New York and New England for the weekend, resulting in warm and humid weather with bouts of showers and thunderstorms. A cold front will push slowly south through the region on Sunday night into Monday. In it’s wake, high pressure will build into the Northeast for mid week. What this all boils down to, the flying weather will be good for our Friday afternoon flight, not good for the weekend as well as probably Monday before good flying weather returns Tuesday/Wednesday of next week.

Weather Details for Today and Friday

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

A disturbance moving in from the west has spread rain into the region ahead of a warm front, which will be followed by a cold front this evening as a second low forms off the New Jersey Coast. Rain will linger into Thursday as an upper level disturbance moves across the region. High pressure will build-in to give us fair weather on Friday with more unsettled weather for the weekend, possibly starting during the overnight on Friday.

Flying Weather Going into the Coming Weekend
