Spring in the NorthCountry?

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

According to today’s weather forecasting, the coming storm will be a full blown nor’easter. The Albany National Weather Service is using words like “meteorological bomb” to describe the storm that will be developing overnight, potentially dumping around a foot of heavy wet snow in the area overnight and on Friday. Then as we get into April, it looks like there are 2 to 3 fairly wet systems coming through. One Monday night into Tuesday, another on Wednesday and not sure if they are talking about another system or just a continuation of Wednesdays system on Thursday and Friday? Anyhow – “April showers bring May flowers”, or so it goes?

Hoping for Spring?

Wednesday, March 30th, 2011

Well, I was hoping to post possible start dates for the balloon rides, but, it appears that we are in line for an April Fools Day, old fashioned nor’easter chugging up the east coast. Start date now probably is toward the middle to later in the month of April. We’ll see how things go as we move into April. When the sun is out now, it is fairly high in the sky and warm, so it can dry things up fairly quick once the frost comes out of the ground.

Last Ski for the Season

Wednesday, March 16th, 2011

Yesterday was a beautiful day, and I took advantage of the conditions and headed over to our local hill, West Mountain for a last ski for this year. There are signs that Spring is on it’s way and Winter is waning.

It was a beautiful morning to ride the old chair to the top of West.

More Snow

Thursday, March 10th, 2011

We got 3-4 more inches of snow overnight. Now it’s changed to rain. Gonna be a mess!

As I've been saying, it's gonna be awhile before those spring balloon rides happen.

Ski Trip to Gore

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011

Today was ski Gore day, before the next system comes-in, looking rather wet with not much snow. Gore’s web site said they got 25″ from the storm, and their ski conditions showed it.

On the road to Gore, lots of snow piled up along Rt 28.

Snow, Snow, Look at the Snow!

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011

Oh yes, oh yes, I do like snow! – borrowed from a children’s book that we used to read to our guys when they were young. It was a beautiful morning to ski West Mountain. What conditions! West got a huge dump of snow, and the groom, the best ever. Tomorrow, off to Gore for some big mountain skiing with the wifey. Gore should have gotten even more snow than West. I’m really looking forward to it! But, for those of you looking for a balloon ride, it’s not going to be an early spring flying season like last year. It probably will be toward the end of April or early May before we start our spring flying. Stay tuned for our hot air balloon ride starting time updates.

This was last week, it's even better now!

It’s Still Winter Here!

Monday, March 7th, 2011

We got another 14 or so inches of snow last night and this morning. The start of our Spring hot air balloon ride flying season keeps getting pushed back by the endless winter (I think that’s the name of a Warren Miller video?). Probably should go skiing again tomorrow at West Mt and I plan on going to Gore on Wednesday with wifey.

We didn't even see a plow on my street until noon.

A Beautiful Morning to Ski

Friday, March 4th, 2011

I took a quick trip to our local hill, West Mountain, for a little ski R&R on a beautiful late winter morning-especially before the crap weather moves in for the weekend and ruins the excellent ski conditions. I know a lot of folks out there are tired of winter this year, but if you live around here, you really need to get out and enjoy what winter has to offer.
