Labor Day Morning Flight and Weather for Week of 9/7 to 12th

Monday morning was fine flying weather, the best that we experienced over the Labor Day holiday weekend. We flew a couple from Salem OH who was touring the NE and a couple from the Albany area.

The flying weather forecast for this week doesn’t look the best. There may be opportunities between systems here and there to fly, but it looks like late Friday into early Sunday of the coming weekend will bring the best conditions for hot air balloon flights.

Hot Air Balloon Ride Flying Weather Update for the Holiday Weekend

The forecast for this weekend looks not very good for flying on Saturday. Sunday into Tuesday looks better as does the weather toward the end of the week. The effects of hurricane Earl will stay east of us and not be much of a factor other than to provide a deepening of a closed low pressure center up near James Bay, which will enhance the low level pressure gradient causing gusty west, northwest winds, and lake-effect rain showers off Lake Ontario and Lake Erie on Saturday. The wind should moderate on Sunday thru Tuesday.

We flew a couple from Edmonton Alberta on Wednesday morning. We definitely have our HHH flying conditions back that we had in July. Dave and Mallory are on an extensive driving tour of the northeast that started in Toronto.

The flying weather should be ok for Friday morning, before Hurricane Earl’s weather starts to affect our flying conditions. Saturday looks out for flying as well as most, if not all of Sunday. The flying weather should be good for Monday into Wednesday of the new week.

Weekend Balloon Rides and Flying Weather for this Week

We had a very busy weekend with the great flying weather over the weekend. Taking a short R&R break until Tuesday, when we will be flying again as the good flying conditions look to continue through at least Wednesday or Thursday. Currently, the early look at the coming Labor Day holiday weekend looks to be more fall like with some flying opportunities after a frontal passage sometime either late Thursday or on Friday. Depending on how close and when tropical system Earl moves up the east coast and out to sea, will have a factor on our flying conditions for late in the week and into the early part of the holiday weekend.

On Friday morning's flight is Sharon, Donny, Dawn & Nancy

We passed on flying Friday PM due to lack of wind that would have made for a boring ride for our passengers.

On Saturday morning we flew Dana, Matthew, Taylor, & Max plus Brigette & Mindi

On Saturday evening we flew a private group with a request for no pictures to be posted for public view. We are here serve our customers and honor their wishes.

On Sunday morning, we flew Corey, Michele, Tamara & Nathan.

We took a break on Sunday evening and Monday from flying after the weekend’s busy flying schedule to get ready for our week going into the Labor Day holiday weekend, summer’s last hurrah.

The flying weather forecast looks great right into the mid part of next week. We currently have some space available for Monday and early Tuesday for riders, so call if interested.

Warrensburg

Wifey and I made a recent trip up the Northway to exit 23 to Warrensburg, to her favorite area framing/gifty shop.

Warrensburg is a small community nestled in the Adirondack Mountains, noted for it's antique shops and old Victorian B&Bs

The Riverside Gallery is loaded with Adirondack style gift items and is a quality frame shop

We stopped at a place called Lizzie Keays for lunch that is across the Schroon River from the Gallery. It was ok, but there are much better places to have lunch not far away.

Just down the street from Lizzie Keays is The Gristmill, a restaurant that has a fine reputation. They are not open for lunch.

Warrensburg has at times had several fine restaurants, but lately, I can only recommend The Gristmill and Brunetto’s. Neither place seems to have a web site, but there are numerous reviews available through Yahoo, Trip Advisor etc. Warrensburg has several fine Victorian style B&Bs and country Inns. The Chamber of Commerce has a web site that details all there is to know about this mountain community that is adjacent to Lake George and about a half hour north of Saratoga Springs.

The flying weather forecast looks challenging for a good part of the week, but should be good by the time the coming weekend rolls around. There may be some flying opportunities on Tuesday and Wednesday, as well as early Thursday. But, later on Thursday and part if not all of Friday, do not look good at this time. Flying on Tuesday and Wednesday will depend on whether we get any drying between now and then, we got a lot of rain overnight on Saturday and again on Sunday, and of course the weather, which will still be influenced by the cut-off low to our south until a front sweeps through on Thursday. Friday may be a bit blustery. High pressure moves in for the weekend. As always, the weather is a dynamic process, so check back later for weather updates as the week goes along.

Today, we went to breakfast with friend Rick Pollock who came down from Burlington VT to go on a balloon ride. But, the weather didn’t cooperate so we took him to the place where I pick-up my balloon ride passengers and transport them out to the flight area for their balloon ride. The Silo is a great place for breakfast or lunch.

Did I say it was raining and that's why we weren't flying, yup!

Bistro Tallulah

A little while back, Tani went out to eat with an old high school buddy and his friend at our favorite place in downtown Glens Falls for dinner, Bistro Tallulah. Tallulah’s is a place where we’ve never been disappointed with our meal. If you go, you have to make reservations. It’s very difficult to get in as a walk-up.

Weekend Flight and Weather for Week of 8/22-28

Well, it wasn’t the best weekend, or week, for flying. While we did manage a couple of flights during the week, we only flew on Saturday morning over the weekend. We canceled the Saturday afternoon flight when we met the passengers at the pick-up because of the weather conditions, which were unfortunately in a deterioration mode with heavy rain on the way, which is what we are now experiencing. According to the public forecast, the weather will not start to improve until Tuesday, which if we get the amount of rain they are forecasting, 2-5 inches in the flight area, we may not resume our flights until Wednesday or Thursday to give the flight area time to dry out. But, at least the majority of the week looks to be dry after Monday, except for a frontal passage overnight on Wednesday.
