Recent Balloon Flights and Weather Forecast for the Weekend

Thursday, June 6th, 2013 by Phil Jackson

Recent flights have been a bit spotty as of late due to the weather. On Saturday morning the 1st, I flew a mixed group, a couple from Astoria, and a customer from Scotia on a gift balloon ride.

Shawn and Vanessa up over Argyle on a beautiful morning.

Now for the weather forecast portion of this post for the Adirondacks, Lake George, Saratoga Springs, Albany – The Capital District, and the outlook for doing any hot air balloon rides this weekend. In 2 words, not good. Right now, the weather looks rather damp right through the next week of June, according to the 6 to 14 day outlook forecast by the Climate Prediction Center.

The weather forecast for the Adirondacks, Lake George, Saratoga Springs, Albany, The Capital District, looks possible on Tuesday, and the best on the Wednesday AM and PM flight windows for going on a hot air balloon ride. Right now, later in the week into the upcoming weekend doesn’t look so good for going on a hot air balloon ride. I have space available, so either give me a call @ 518-793-6342 or contact me through my web site @ AdirondackBalloonFlights.com

Recent Balloon Rides and Mother’s Day Weekend, Balloon Flying Weather

Friday, May 10th, 2013 by Phil Jackson

First up, the Mother’s Day weekend weather forecast for the Lake George – Saratoga Springs – Albany, Capital District region from Albany NWS. Put simply, is not the best for balloon flying. While Saturday looks to be rather on the wet side, Sunday will be drier, but with scattered showers and some wind. The best day for going on a hot air balloon ride will be Tuesday and maybe Wednesday morning of the coming week.

Now for our recent flights—We started the hot air balloon flying season with a proposal on April 28th. The couple were from Montreal QC and Ridgfield NJ.

Baqhar and Rabab asked that the actual proposal photos remain private. Congratulations folks.

Next, we flew Jay DeDapper and Tod Wohlfarth on Sunday afternoon, the 4th of May.

Tod, Marguerite (who assisted as “ground crew”) and Jay

Jay is a former political reporter @ WNBC in NYC, and Tod is Partner/Creative Director of Rock Paper Pixel, a brand strategy and design studio.

This weekend, we are heading down to Fishkill for the Northeastern Pioneer Aeronauts Reunion. I’m looking forward to getting together with some folks that I haven’t seen in quite awhile and who I originally got to know back in the early days of hot air balloon flying in the 70′s. The the modern era, pioneer days of hot air ballooning.

Balloon Ride Weather Forecast for Weekend and early next Week

Friday, May 3rd, 2013 by Phil Jackson

Our weather continues to be beautiful for outdoor activity, including going on a hot air balloon ride. The National Weather Service forecast for the Lake George, Saratoga Springs, Albany – The Capital District region, continues to be dry, under the influence of a blocking high pressure area, parked over the northeastern part of the United States. If anyone is interested in going on a balloon ride during a pretty time of spring, now is your opportunity – we have space available on most flights right through next week. So, give us a call @ 518-793-6342 and/or check out our web site, and fill-out the reservation form to book your balloon flight.

Recent Balloon Ride and Weather for the Week

Sunday, October 14th, 2012 by Phil Jackson

On Saturday morning, I flew Sean and Melody, from the Ballston Lake, Saratoga Springs area, on a frosty, clear private hot air balloon ride over rural Washington County. Some of the fall foliage is past and down, but the hill areas are still bright with fall color to enjoy.

Yes, there was frost on the pumpkin on Saturday morning. Notice the white in the grass area top right, it was low 20′s.

Sean and Melody. The sun warmed things up toward the end of the flight as the sun melted the frost away.

The weather forecast for this week for the Lake George, Saratoga Springs area, looks to be pretty much as it’s been for the past 3-4 weeks, progressive with a couple of days of wet and a day or so of sun before the next system, and on and on…

Hot Air Balloon Ride Weather Forecast

Wednesday, October 10th, 2012 by Phil Jackson

Our National Weather Service forecast for the Adirondacks, Lake George, Saratoga Springs New York area is not changing much from what’s it’s been for the past 3 weeks, very progressive with rain and weather systems every couple of days, and increasingly cooler temps. While we are forecast to get a break on Thursday, it doesn’t look flyable. Then another system for overnight into early Friday with windy conditions during the day. Saturday looks good for balloon ride flying on the coming weekend, but that may be it until next Tuesday as we get a series of systems on Sunday/Monday with rain. With the speed and intensity of the lows coming thru, it’s looking like an active transition period to winter from summer. And, the Climate Prediction Center is forecasting us to stay rather wet for most of the balance of October.

This is pretty much what the flying area looked like on the Monday PM flight. Our foliage has now reached it’s peak, and will be past peak next week.

Weather Forecast for Columbus Day Holiday Weekend

Friday, October 5th, 2012 by Phil Jackson

The weather forecast for the Lake George, Saratoga Springs weekend looks crappy, again. It doesn’t look flyable other than maybe on Monday, Tuesday and early on Wednesday, maybe. They are currently reporting 3 miles out at the local airport, but I can’t see more than 100s of feet out my window? Looks rather the same on satellite pics, lots of fog in the Hudson River Valley this morning. The forecast discussion from the National Weather Service out of Albany, paints a rather fall-like scenario through next week, with a number of systems rounding the base of a low anchored up in north central Canada, bringing reinforcing shots of cooler air. Looks like we are transitioning out of summer and into winter folks. It’s almost time to get the skis tuned for ski season!

We will be at peak fall foliage this week. Good time to fly, if you can.
