Recent Hot Air Balloon Rides and Weather Forecast

Tuesday, September 10th, 2013

We did manage to do a couple of flights when we got a brake with the weather. First was the past Saturday morning –

Michael, Christina and Joie, a family from Huntington NY.

On Monday morning, I flew 4 friends from Washington County, Fred and Phyllis, and Alyce and Ed.

The weather forecast for the Lake George, Saratoga Springs area for this week is not very good for doing balloon rides until we get to the weekend, specifically Sunday from what they are currently showing today. On another note about current showing of weather forecasts, last week I mentioned in my blog post that the CPC’s 7-10 day outlook forecast was looking wet heading into the upcoming Adirondack Hot Air Balloon Festival. Well, seems there has been a change of heart as far as their forecast models, and they are now advertising above average dry? Hey, it’s the northeast. Give the forecast a minute, and it’ll change – for the good this time!

Recent Balloon Flight and Weather Forecast

Wednesday, September 4th, 2013

Well, the flying weather for balloon rides in the Lake George/Saratoga Springs area for the Labor Day Holiday weekend, was a bust for me, as was the week going into Labor Day. The Bermuda high that set-up over our area did me no favors, just as it didn’t when it was here for much of early July. We did manage to get on flight in on the morning of the 30th.

A mother/daughter, Bonnie from Plattsburgh and Jena from Rensselaer up over Washington County.

It’s looking like our weather is starting to shift toward fall/winter with the passing of the Labor Day holiday. It’s amazing how it works, the calendar turns and we start our steady march toward winter. I have to admit that I do love the Fall time of year.

Fall Flying!

Fall Foliage Flying!

On another weather note with the coming Adirondack Balloon Festival, I don’t want to rain on anybodies parade, but the forecast from the Climate Prediction Center is turning familiar to last couple of festivals. Hopefully, the systems will shift off the coast just in time!

Recent Balloon Rides and Weather

Monday, August 26th, 2013

We just had a fantastic string of beautiful weather the last couple of weeks. Great for doing some flying, and it was also great for partying and enjoying the area’s amenities with family that was in-town for a week long mooch. The weather forecast for this week for the Adirondacks, Lake George, Saratoga Springs region does not look good for flying until we get close and into the upcoming Labor Day Holiday Weekend.

Now it’s time to update recent flights from the beautiful weekend we just had – –

On Saturday morning the 24th, I flew friends Joan, Denise and Carol from Long Island NY.

As you can see, our flying weather has finally improved so we can do some flying, and the forecast from the National Weather Service, looks typical summer flying weather through the middle of the month. After a couple of rain days now, weather improves over the weekend thru early Tuesday, and after some rain later Tuesday, the weather improves the rest of next week.

Hot Air Balloon Ride Flying Weather?

Monday, July 1st, 2013

It’s been awhile since my last post, mainly because nothing much has changed as far as the flying conditions, other than they have gotten worse as of late. So, there really was nothing to say. And my mother always said, if you have nothing good to say, don’t say anything at all! Anyhow, just to update the weather forecast for the Adirondacks, Lake George, Saratoga Springs, Albany and The Capital District, it remains very soggy, and once the rain finally lets-up, we will need some drying before we can even think of flying again due to very wet field conditions out in the flying area. The weather pattern seems to be tracking pretty much the same as the last 4 years (except each year, it’s a bit worse than the previous year). The National Weather Service’s Climate Prediction Center’s forecast pretty much confirms this, at least so far. So, if it continues as before, we should start to dry-out toward the middle of July, and, by the end of the month, most of August, and the first couple of weeks of September, go dry for good flying before it starts raining again just in time for the September Balloon Festival and the fall flying season (before it goes dry again heading into winter and ski season). Hey, I’d love to be surprised and get something other than these extreme weather conditions, where it’s either excessive rain or excessive dry (like they are experiencing out west right now). And if anything can surprise, it’s the weather. So, here’s hoping for…

We'd love it to look like this, but, not until Monday - hopefully!

We’d love it to look like this.

Recent flights have been a bit spotty as of late due to the weather. On Saturday morning the 1st, I flew a mixed group, a couple from Astoria, and a customer from Scotia on a gift balloon ride.

Now for the weather forecast portion of this post for the Adirondacks, Lake George, Saratoga Springs, Albany – The Capital District, and the outlook for doing any hot air balloon rides this weekend. In 2 words, not good. Right now, the weather looks rather damp right through the next week of June, according to the 6 to 14 day outlook forecast by the Climate Prediction Center.

Balloon Ride Flying Weather for the Week

Monday, June 3rd, 2013

The weather forecast for the Adirondacks, Lake George, Saratoga Springs, Albany, The Capital District, looks possible on Tuesday, and the best on the Wednesday AM and PM flight windows for going on a hot air balloon ride. Right now, later in the week into the upcoming weekend doesn’t look so good for going on a hot air balloon ride. I have space available, so either give me a call @ 518-793-6342 or contact me through my web site @ AdirondackBalloonFlights.com
