As you can see, our flying weather has finally improved so we can do some flying, and the forecast from the National Weather Service, looks typical summer flying weather through the middle of the month. After a couple of rain days now, weather improves over the weekend thru early Tuesday, and after some rain later Tuesday, the weather improves the rest of next week.

Hot Air Balloon Ride Flying Weather?

Monday, July 1st, 2013

It’s been awhile since my last post, mainly because nothing much has changed as far as the flying conditions, other than they have gotten worse as of late. So, there really was nothing to say. And my mother always said, if you have nothing good to say, don’t say anything at all! Anyhow, just to update the weather forecast for the Adirondacks, Lake George, Saratoga Springs, Albany and The Capital District, it remains very soggy, and once the rain finally lets-up, we will need some drying before we can even think of flying again due to very wet field conditions out in the flying area. The weather pattern seems to be tracking pretty much the same as the last 4 years (except each year, it’s a bit worse than the previous year). The National Weather Service’s Climate Prediction Center’s forecast pretty much confirms this, at least so far. So, if it continues as before, we should start to dry-out toward the middle of July, and, by the end of the month, most of August, and the first couple of weeks of September, go dry for good flying before it starts raining again just in time for the September Balloon Festival and the fall flying season (before it goes dry again heading into winter and ski season). Hey, I’d love to be surprised and get something other than these extreme weather conditions, where it’s either excessive rain or excessive dry (like they are experiencing out west right now). And if anything can surprise, it’s the weather. So, here’s hoping for…

We'd love it to look like this, but, not until Monday - hopefully!

Recent flights have been a bit spotty as of late due to the weather. On Saturday morning the 1st, I flew a mixed group, a couple from Astoria, and a customer from Scotia on a gift balloon ride.

Now for the weather forecast portion of this post for the Adirondacks, Lake George, Saratoga Springs, Albany – The Capital District, and the outlook for doing any hot air balloon rides this weekend. In 2 words, not good. Right now, the weather looks rather damp right through the next week of June, according to the 6 to 14 day outlook forecast by the Climate Prediction Center.

The weather forecast for the Adirondacks, Lake George, Saratoga Springs, Albany, The Capital District, looks possible on Tuesday, and the best on the Wednesday AM and PM flight windows for going on a hot air balloon ride. Right now, later in the week into the upcoming weekend doesn’t look so good for going on a hot air balloon ride. Memorial Weekend Forecast Update

Friday, May 24th, 2013

Well, the weather forecast update isn’t very pretty for the Memorial Holiday Weekend. When I originally posted the weekend forecast on Tuesday, the weather looked pretty good going into the weekend according to the National Weather Service. The Albany NWS forecast discussion did mention tho, the possibility of a cut-off low forming off the New Jersey Coast and it hanging around for most of the weekend. It now looks like what they were at the time considering the outlier computer model, is not the consensus forecast model for the weekend. If you are visiting the Adirondacks, Lake George, Saratoga Springs, Albany, The Capital District region over the Memorial Holiday Weekend, expect November like weather. If you are heading into the Adirondacks, expect the chance of snow showers in the higher elevations Saturday/early Sunday. The rest of the area will be a cold rain and wind, especially on Saturday, with some improvement on Sunday, and hopefully a somewhat decent Monday – we’ll see.

Balloon Ride Weather Forecast for Weekend and early next Week

Friday, May 3rd, 2013

Our weather continues to be beautiful for outdoor activity, including going on a hot air balloon ride. The National Weather Service forecast for the Lake George, Saratoga Springs, Albany – The Capital District region, continues to be dry, under the influence of a blocking high pressure area, parked over the northeastern part of the United States. If anyone is interested in going on a balloon ride during a pretty time of spring, now is your opportunity – we have space available on most flights right through next week. So, give us a call @ 518-793-6342 and/or check out our web site, and fill-out the reservation form to book your balloon flight.
