Memorial Weekend Forecast Update

Friday, May 24th, 2013

Well, the weather forecast update isn’t very pretty for the Memorial Holiday Weekend. When I originally posted the weekend forecast on Tuesday, the weather looked pretty good going into the weekend according to the National Weather Service. The Albany NWS forecast discussion did mention tho, the possibility of a cut-off low forming off the New Jersey Coast and it hanging around for most of the weekend. It now looks like what they were at the time considering the outlier computer model, is not the consensus forecast model for the weekend. If you are visiting the Adirondacks, Lake George, Saratoga Springs, Albany, The Capital District region over the Memorial Holiday Weekend, expect November like weather. If you are heading into the Adirondacks, expect the chance of snow showers in the higher elevations Saturday/early Sunday. The rest of the area will be a cold rain and wind, especially on Saturday, with some improvement on Sunday, and hopefully a somewhat decent Monday – we’ll see.

Recent Balloon Rides and Mother’s Day Weekend, Balloon Flying Weather

Friday, May 10th, 2013

First up, the Mother’s Day weekend weather forecast for the Lake George – Saratoga Springs – Albany, Capital District region from Albany NWS. Put simply, is not the best for balloon flying. While Saturday looks to be rather on the wet side, Sunday will be drier, but with scattered showers and some wind. The best day for going on a hot air balloon ride will be Tuesday and maybe Wednesday morning of the coming week.

Now for our recent flights—We started the hot air balloon flying season with a proposal on April 28th.

Next, we flew Jay DeDapper and Tod Wohlfarth on Sunday afternoon, the 4th of May.

Tod, Marguerite (who assisted as “ground crew”) and Jay

Jay is a former political reporter @ WNBC in NYC, and Tod is Partner/Creative Director of Rock Paper Pixel, a brand strategy and design studio.

This weekend, we are heading down to Fishkill for the Northeastern Pioneer Aeronauts Reunion. I’m looking forward to getting together with some folks that I haven’t seen in quite awhile and who I originally got to know back in the early days of hot air balloon flying in the 70’s. The the modern era, pioneer days of hot air ballooning.

Balloon Ride Weather Forecast for Weekend and early next Week

Friday, May 3rd, 2013

Our weather continues to be beautiful for outdoor activity, including going on a hot air balloon ride. The National Weather Service forecast for the Lake George, Saratoga Springs, Albany – The Capital District region, continues to be dry, under the influence of a blocking high pressure area, parked over the northeastern part of the United States. If anyone is interested in going on a balloon ride during a pretty time of spring, now is your opportunity – we have space available on most flights right through next week. So, give us a call @ 518-793-6342 and/or check out our web site, and fill-out the reservation form to book your balloon flight.

Weather Forecast for Columbus Day Holiday Weekend

Friday, October 5th, 2012

The weather forecast for the Lake George, Saratoga Springs weekend looks crappy, again. It doesn’t look flyable other than maybe on Monday, Tuesday and early on Wednesday, maybe. They are currently reporting 3 miles out at the local airport, but I can’t see more than 100s of feet out my window? Looks rather the same on satellite pics, lots of fog in the Hudson River Valley this morning. The forecast discussion from the National Weather Service out of Albany, paints a rather fall-like scenario through next week, with a number of systems rounding the base of a low anchored up in north central Canada, bringing reinforcing shots of cooler air. Looks like we are transitioning out of summer and into winter folks. It’s almost time to get the skis tuned for ski season!

We will be at peak fall foliage this week. Good time to fly, if you can.

Recent Hot Air Balloon Rides and Flying Weather Forecast for this Week

Monday, July 23rd, 2012

We just finished up a good run of flying, due to some darn nice flying conditions that went from the middle of the week, thru most of the weekend. I’ll post-up some pics from the flights, then discuss the weather forecast for this week.
Our current run of flights started on Thursday morning with the Schroeder Family from Manitowoc, WI.

Kevin, Tara, and Colten on a beautiful early morning over rural Washington County.

On Friday morning, Kip and Andrew shared a balloon flight with their mother Eleanor for her 80th birthday. Happy Birthday Eleanor!

On Saturday morning, I had Joann and her son Nick from the Schuylerville area on the balloon flight.

On Saturday afternoon, I had Angela, Kimberly and Marolis on the balloon ride, from the Albany area and Alabama.

On the Sunday morning balloon ride, I had Alic and Robert who came down from the Rutland VT area to fly. This ended our streak of flights and good flying conditions, as the flying weather goes downhill from here for a good part of the week.

Now for the weather part for the Lake George, Saratoga Springs area – It’s gotten a bit on the dry side lately, which has made some folks fret. But hey, this is the Northeast, not the Southwest, and it will rain. Folks have a short memory about the weather, where so far this year, we went from a precipitation deficit from this past winter, to a surplus just from rain from the latter half of May, thru the early half of June, and that’s after a year where we had hugh snowfall and flooding rains. So it’s been a little dry lately, and, what do we get this week, the forecast calls for numerous chances of rain for a majority of the week into the coming weekend. Best days look like Wednesday and Sunday.

The Summer Solstice is here now with it’s long days and summer weather. Looking forward to summer flights.
